Keeping your Home Clean

Now that you have a house you can be proud of, what can you do to keep it looking in peak condition? Dirt, drinks and animal tend to find their way onto your furniture so use these tactics to keep everything looking nice.
Get scotch guard and spray down your upholstery. Have you ever been in a house where they have plastic on all the furniture like car covers on vintage fords? Effective as car covers may be they aren’t pretty to look at. Covering your furniture in plastic is not your best option. Use an invisible spray that will go away almost instantly and won’t squeak or stick to your legs. These kinds of sprays are like a car cover that you never have to take on or off. I understand protecting your furniture but that plastic looks awful and reminds me of an old folk’s home.
Condition your wood and leather properly. Getting mink oil for our leather and using it the right way will keep it from cracking and won’t let dirt stick to the surface. On top of that well-oiled leather won’t stain or pick up odors. Wood is similar. You need a wood conditioner, which is different than leather conditioner, but it helps to prevent cracking and splintering while maintaining the color, stain and finish. A freshly cleaned and oiled piece of hardwood looks amazing. Many people think that buying leather and hardwood furniture is the end of the deal. You need to maintain and protect these pieces to keep them looking their best. Just covering them up doesn’t work. Even with car covers the old Fords need some polish once in a while.
Keep shelving to the bare minimum. Shelves are like dust magnets and no matter what you do you are going to need to lean them more often than you think. If you carefully arrange your shelves and the items on them to be just the way you want but never clean them you are going to end up with a film of dust and filth that will could choke a horse.
These are some pretty simple techniques for keeping your home looking clean and presentable. They may seem simple to some of you but these are easily overlooked necessities.
